Fermanagh Herald, 2nd December 2009

It was a night of great food, fun and laughter, when a major male carers' celebration event entitled "What About Me?" was held at the Erne Dynasty Restaurant in Enniskillen recently.

The event, which was organised by local social enterprise Me Unltd, in partnership with Positive Futures and the Western Health and Social Care Trust, was well attended with over 60 male carers and their families attending.

A Chinese finger banquet, fun and recognition were all on the programme, with Gene Fitzpatrick, one of Ireland's leading comedians ensuring that laughter took centre stage on the night, while a father and son twosome from Derry – Joseph Lynch and his son John (who is 22 years old and has Autism) – acted out an inspiring chat show piece to show the touching and inspiring relationship between a male carer and his son.

Noreen Kettyles, Inspiration Director with Me Unltd stated: "There are some 63,000 male carers in Northern Ireland, and we are delighted that we were able to recognise the invaluable contributions of those male carers living in Fermanagh, including those who care for children with learning/physical disabilities, carers of the elderly, and those who look after the sick or another loved one in the family."

Joseph Lynch, who attended in his role as carer for his son who has a learning disability said: "The night was really uplifting – and it was just great to see so many of the male carers being recognised for all they do within their families. I know from chatting to many on the night that they really appreciated the Certificates of Recognition handed out and the lovely gifts."
