Derry men Vincent Edwards and Martin Gormley helped raise £12,500 for Autism NI when they climbed Ben Nevis in aid of the charity. Months of fundraising and training culminated when the pair, accompanied by over 30 others reached the summit last Saturday. The pair personally raised more than £500 each.
Autism NI was formed in 1989 by a group of concerned parents and professionals and works to provide life changing services for the 20,000 people affected by Autism throughout Northern Ireland. Kerry Boyd, Fundraising and Marketing Manager for Autism NI, said: "Congratulations to Vincent and Martin and the rest of the Trek Ben Nevis team for raising so much money for Autism NI.
"All monies raised by this challenge will be used to support Autism NI's vital services which include a Parent Support Network, Family Support Service, training and education courses, developmental research and also lobbying for a NI Autism Act.
"We are already recruiting for Trek Ben Nevis 2010, which will take place in June next year, so if you feel that you would be up for the challenge, please call 028 9040 1729 to book your place.
"Treks are a great way to achieve a lifetime goal, meet new friends and raise vital funds for charity!"
