    A mother's frustration (Sligo Champion, 23/11/2011)

FULL-TIME ASSISTANT FOR DAUGHTER WAS TAKEN AWAY

IT'S OFTEN said that a mother's love knows no bounds. But for a mother of two children with special needs, life's all the more challenging, so much so that, in the present time, it's a case of having "to beg" for help.

Gary, suicide bids, and inside the mind of a young man with Asperger's [dailymail.co.uk]

    Story source: www.dailymail.co.uk

A few years ago, I opened a new unit at a weekly residential centre for adults with autism and Asperger's Syndrome. Because of my visit, some of their parents had been invited.

Normally, the residents would be collected on a Friday and taken home for the weekend, but because this was midweek, their parents and carers were to leave without them.

    Dereks website on Asperger syndrome

"This website is an attempt to give someone an idea of what it is like to have Asperger's Syndrome. My name is Derek, and I am an afflictee of the condition, from Ireland. Although I did not get a formal diagnosis, I am fairly sure that I have the condition. I usually refer to the condition simply as "AS". In today's busy lifestyle anything is fair game for getting abbreviated, and Asperger's Syndrome is no exception."
