Understanding ASD, Autism and Asperger (Dublin, 15/Oct/09)

Venue: INTO Learning Centre, 38 Parnell Square, Dublin

This course run over 7 afternoon modules is being designed and delivered in collaboration with Middletown Centre for Autism. The aim of the course is to give knowledge of the autism spectrum disorder, including Asperger syndrome, based on theory, research and practice. An understanding of ASD, Autism and Asperger syndrome will be given in a format that can be transferred easily to classroom and professional practice. The course will also aim to develop skills in identifying and meeting the needs of children with ASD and improve awareness of different approaches and models of service delivery particularly in the area of education.

The course outline is as follows:
Module 1: The Fundamentals of Autism (Oct 15th)
Module 2: The Fundamentals of Asperger Syndrome (Oct 22nd)
Module 3: ASD, Mental Health and Co-Morbidities (Nov 5th)
Module 4: ASD and Behavioural Issues (Nov 12th)
Module 5: ASD, Sensory Processing, Social and Life Skills (Nov 19th)
Module 6: ASD, Transitions and Executive Functioning (Nov 26th)
Module 7: ASD, the Structured Environment and Inclusion within a Mainstream Setting. (Dec 3rd)

The course will run over 7 consecutive Thursdays (excluding mid-term) commencing on Thursday 15th October from 3.30-6.30pm in the INTO Learning Centre, 38 Parnell Square. An on-line support facility will support participants throughout
the course.

The course costs €140.
