Hello, my name is Avril Carroll and I am the Head Researcher in a study which aims to uncover parents views on the process of securing primary educational placement for children with autism in Ireland. This study is being conducted in association with the Open University under the supervision of Dr. Sue Cave.

Participation in this study involves completion of an anonymous postal questionnaire which takes between 15-20 minutes and can help inform research in this neglected area.

If you would like to participate in the study and have your views heard, please email avril@autismeducationstudy.com or phone/text 087-7592131 with your name and address for an information pack.

Wanted: Participants for Study on Impact of challenging behaviour on siblings

My name is Doireann O’Brien. I am a postgraduate student in the School of Education, Queens University Belfast. I am studying an MSc in Autistic Spectrum Disorders. My dissertation project will be an examination of the perception and experience of parents/siblings of people who have been diagnosed with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder. The choice for this project reflects my own experience as a sibling of a person with Autistic Spectrum Disorders and the lack of research in this important area.

Nine Questions

For Teachers, Professionals and "experienced" parents, this article discusses leading Autism experts discussing problems with existing descriptions of Autism and how to diagnose/describe Autism better!

At a Autism Conference (February 3-5, 2008), leading Autism experts asked...

nine questions:
* what are the core symptom domains in autism?
* how are fixated interests and stereotypes related to each other, to autism, and to obsessions and compulsions?
* how does the presentation of autism change across the lifespan?

Treatments and Interventions

For many children, ASD symptoms improve with treatment and with age. Some children with autism grow up to lead normal or near-normal lives. Therapies and behavioural interventions are designed to remedy specific symptoms and can bring about substantial improvement.
