Assessment queries

Hi, we are currently waiting for our 3 yr old DS to be assessed.

Can anyone offer advice as to whether an independent report from a private SALT would help or not?

Help in terms of speed and being taken seriously? We self referred.

Thanks

Autism Awareness Day in Mullingar Saturday 2nd April 2011

In-door Adventure Play CentreKidz & Co in Mullingar are hosting their third World Autism Awareness Day on Saturday 2nd April 2011.  The United Nations declared April 2nd World Autism Awareness Day to increase and develop world knowledge of autism.   There is free entry for families who are a member of a local or national ASD group (please specify which organisation on reception).

Dr Penny Rogers (Clinical Psychologist) will be doing free screening for Autism all day (11.00 to 5.00pm), which will help parents to decide whether they need to obtain a diagnostic assessment to rule out an Autism Spectrum Disorder.   There will also be information available on Autism Spectrum Disorders and free face-painting.  Collection buckets available for local Autism charities.

SOLAS Assessment Center, Dublin

The Solas Centre was set up as a result of a conversation between 4 people in 2003 who identified the distinct lack of a cohesive provision of diagnostic services in Ireland. Cormac Rennick, Marc De Salvo, Servass Dobedier as founder members of IAA and parents of children with autism, and Allan Willis, Educational Psychologist, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to raise funds for their project. Their climb was symbolic of the obstacles people with autism and their families have to climb every day.
