Can you imagine living in a world where a person might have an impairment but not be disabled? A world where, for example, a parent with a small child in a buggy and the wheelchair-user can travel equally comfortably.
A world where some of our school friends, fellow students and colleagues may have impairments that are seen as ‘normal’, because physical and social environments are accessible to everyone, equally.
Non-disabled people aren’t afraid of saying the wrong thing to a disabled person, because having an impairment, visible or hidden, is accepted as being part of the human condition, part of life, not something strange that should arouse sympathy. Instead, disabled people would be visible, empowered and participating in every sphere of public and private life.

My name is Roisin Kelly and I am a qualified primary teacher with experience in working with children with disabilities. I would be interested in working as a tutor for July provision in the Sligo area this summer.
I am currently studying Child Psychology online and am at a loss with an assignment. It is a case study based on a 10 year old girl with Autism. She is leaving school in 6 weeks time and will enter in to mainstream in September. She uses Lamh and PECS to communicate. She has visited her mainstream school several times and uses her PEC book to communicate with her SNA. She gets frustrated with other children as they cannot communicate with Lamh. Her parents are concerned with her as she is very tired in the evenings and not herself. Her mother had to collect her early from Primary School as Annie began to scream and no one knew what to do.
I need to describe a short term way, medium term way and long term way of providing for continuity and change as she moves to a new school. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

FULL-TIME ASSISTANT FOR DAUGHTER WAS TAKEN AWAY
IT'S OFTEN said that a mother's love knows no bounds. But for a mother of two children with special needs, life's all the more challenging, so much so that, in the present time, it's a case of having "to beg" for help.
The next family event is on Sunday July 10th from 3pm to 5pm in Kids Kingdom, Carrick-on-Shannon.
There will be lots to do.
The Centre consists of multiple lanes of ten pin bowling, a unique castle-themed multi-level play centre, a well-equipped arcade, sumo wrestling and a separate pool table area.
Food and drinks will also be served on the day.
Organised by Parents Support Network, Sligo; Please see FLYER below.
The Carers Association in Sligo is urging carers across the North West

The Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) is a supplementary admissions scheme which offers college places on reduced points to school leavers with disabilities. DARE has been established by a number of colleges as clear evidence shows that disability can have a negative impact on educational attainment at school and progression to higher education.
